The Surface detected resources on my network without any effort on my part. My NAS was there ready for me to use when I first opened File Explorer. My HP Photosmart C410 MFC was likewise detected and the driver automatically downloaded and installed. Pleasantly, the Surface RT driver supported advanced functions like duplexing and grayscale only printing.

A weekend with Surface RT
Although this information will come too late to save the many people who pre-ordered Surface with Windows RT, as well as the many who queued up at Microsoft stores around North America late last week -- thanks again, Microsoft -- it might at least ease the minds of those who waited, or who now face shipping delays. In its current, woefully incomplete form, Surface with Windows RT is nothing more than a PC companion, a secondary device like an iPad, Amazon Kindle Fire HD, or Android tablet.
Yes, as long as your device uses an Intel processor and is not running Windows in S mode. Devices like the Surface RT and Surface Pro X are not compatible with Revu due to the mobile ARM processors in these devices.
I hunted down my Surface Pro and paid over $1,000 for it and am very pleased with the purchase. Microsoft is offering TechEd attendees the Surface Pro 128GB, with no covers, for $399.99 and the Surface RT with touch cover bundle for just $99.99! Wow, that is a crazy deal for a couple solid tablets.
The WiFi firmware will go to sleep and break after some time (12 hours or less) with driver log talking about command timeout. The WiFi interface (mlan0) will vanish and trying to unload and reload the driver will block forever at trying to unload it. So the only way to recover is to hard reset.
My Windows RT 8.1 in Surface RT only left with few 10s MB. I have tried many ways. Right click on C drive to clean up is totally meaningless here. Too bad that when Microsoft do update they have never done a good job to remove the unused file.
In 2021, Microsoft announced a new version of the Surface Headphones 2 dubbed the Surface Headphones 2+. This new version is targeted at business professionals, with an included Surface USB Link connecting the Surface Headphones 2+ to a computer for a super reliable connection. The Surface Headphones 2+ is also certified for Microsoft Teams, with a dedicated button to launch the Microsoft Teams app on the side of the ear cup and a call status light on the USB Link. Outside of the office, the Surface Headphones 2+ functions the exact same as the regular Surface Headphones 2.
While the Surface Headphones 2 looks very similar to the original Surface Headphones, the inside is revamped to be more competitive with the rest of the headphones on the market. Whereas the originals had no support for high-quality Bluetooth codecs and only had Bluetooth 4.2, the Surface Headphones 2 has Bluetooth 5.0 as well as aptX support.
Bose and Microsoft made sure that these headsets looked like premium noise cancelling headphones, but took slightly different approaches: the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 forgoes all edges in favor of a smooth, modern design, while Microsoft attracts the eye with the Surface Headphones 2 clean, crisp lines.
Now, Bose is the clear-cut winner when it comes to a few categories: noise cancelling, sound quality, and battery life. ANC performance is more consistent and effective across the board, which is key for frequent flyers and commuters. Sound quality is more accurately reproduced with the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700, which makes it easier to EQ the sound to your liking.
While partners are preparing the new devices, the Windows team will continue to work closely with them as it puts the finishing touches on Windows 8.1 leading up to general availability on October 18. On that date, Windows 8.1 will be broadly available for commercial customers with or without volume licensing agreements, our broad partner ecosystem, subscribers to MSDN and TechNet, as well as consumers.
Windows RT was updated to Windows RT 8.1. It's also known by its pre-release code name, Windows on Arm (WOA), not to be confused with Windows Runtime (WinRT), a programming interface for Windows first introduced in Windows 8.
I have been having this issue since day one with mine now about 18 months old. have you found any solutions? only thing i can have to fix it is to hold power and volume down but that is not very practical, it is happening more and more often now with my surface as it ages
My battery is going from fully charged to dead, when unplugged, in less than 15 minutes. When i ran the powercfg /batteryreport its showing my batter with more than 100% charged battery capacity at times. It just died in under 15 minutes and went from 107% capacity to 0%. Does this mean battery need replaced or could something else be the issue?
Microsoft launched the Surface 2 tablet in New York yesterday. The company says the new tablet lasts longer without charging and is more powerful, too. Brett Ostrum is the general manager of development for the Surface tablet. He says Microsoft users have come to expect productivity from their computers and tablets. But a survey by Gartner research says tablet owners spend 50 percent of their screen time on entertainment and only 15 percent of the time working.
On the brighter side, Windows RT has a few advantages. Devices using Windows RT are usually cheaper than those using Windows 8. And, a free Home/Student version of Microsoft Office 2013 comes pre-installed with Windows RT. 2ff7e9595c
